Welcome to Le Manoir de Hérouville

Serene and beautiful Le Manoir de Hérouville is a perfect gem set in 17 acres of gardens and paddocks amidst quiet rural countryside. Bordered by the magnificent Fôret de Cerisy and nestling midway between the ancient Norman towns of Saint Ló and Bayeux it is an ideal location to get away from the cares and stresses of daily life and relax in elegant style.

Built during the 16th and 17th centuries and until approximately ten years ago a farm, Le Manoir de Hérouville has been extensively restored and carefully modernised to retain the feel of a pre-revolutionary Manoir while providing a gracious and comfortable home.

There are two very large chambres d'hotes rooms and one double room available for bed and breakfast guests in the main house. The main bedrooms within Le Manoir are elegantly furnished with much loved family antique furniture each bedroom has an antique four poster king or double bed and in addition are spacious enough to accommodate 2 further single beds if required. Both rooms have large and modern private bathrooms which have both bathtub and shower, complimentary toiletries and huge white towels are replaced as required. Guide books and novels are at hand in all rooms to help you plan your days or just to relax and enjoy a quiet evening.

There is parking for up to 10 cars in the courtyard and secure parking within the barns for motor cycles and bicycles.

Le Pigionnier (dated 1732) was the Manoir dove cot and its size possibly denoted the standing of the original builders, now renovated it has been turned into a charming hideaway for 2 or 4 persons. Separated from the Manoir by the gravelled courtyard Le Pigionnier has three floors. The top mezzanine floor with exposed conical roof and beams with original maker’s marks is a twin bedroom which has views over extensive ponds and gardens. The middle floor is furnished as a double bedroom with antique brass and iron bed and by contrast a modern en-suite shower room. The ground floor has a bijou kitchen with fridge and cooker, a dining area and a seating area with television and DVD with a library of films depicting the martial history of the area, ‘Saving Private Ryan’, ‘The Longest Day’, ‘Band of Brothers’ all chosen on a ‘by request’ basis by previous guests. Bed and breakfast guests in Le Pigionnier take breakfast in the dining room of Le Manoir and have the advantage of catering for themselves or eating at any of the excellent restaurant in the area.

Le Pigeonnier has a table and chairs outside for long warm summer evenings when you can relax with a good wine while the sun goes down. Inside is a wood burning stove for cool autumn evenings when you can sip a warming glass of brandy or Calvados after a day of visiting the Landing Beaches and Museums.

The extensive barns with their fascinating architecture frame the house and add to the feel of stepping aside from the 21st century, here is a small window into the peace and tranquillity of a previous less frantic age.

Behind the barn is a small lake stocked with carp. Ideal for a quiet afternoon, beer in the cooler and a fishing rod at hand with the sun flickering through the trees and birdsong the only sound.

There is a barbeque and large picnic table sited by the lake which guests may use, charcoal and implements, crockery and cutlery are available on request. The glorious and completely private gardens reflect the care and attention which is lavished on all areas of the Manoir and on a warm summer evening are a perfect place to relax with a glass of wine
